Lanzarote City Guide
Eating
There is a wealth of diverse restaurants to choose from in Lanzarote, offering
a wide variety of international cuisine. You can choose from cheaper
snack-style fare to gourmet cuisine, traditional Canarian dishes to good old
fashioned egg & chips! As with most islands, fish is predominant
and there are many high quality fish restaurants in the resorts. Tapas
is popular and other than the local Canarian dishes, food is similar to that
found in Southern Spain. If you fancy eating as the locals do you can
try 'Pescado a la sal' - fish baked in salt and 'Sancocho Canario' -
a stew made with dried fish and potatoes. Also popular is a dish of wrinkled
potatoes cooked in sea water with mojo – a traditional Canarian sauce
with garlic and herbs.
Drinking
There is a wide variety of nightlife to be found on Lanzarote, however it
is not nearly as boisterous as in Tenerife. The liveliest nights
can be had in the busiest resort of Puerto Del Carmen. For the latest
sounds check out the Paradise Beach Club or The Big Apple clubs. In
Playa Blanca the Roof Tops club is a popular place for shaking your stuff,
they also have a live band playing on Friday’s. To experience
a more Canarian social scene head for Arrecife to escape the tourists. And
remember ‘Night Club’ equals brothel in Lanzarote so head for
the Discoteca to avoid a different type of nightlife!

Shopping
The main resorts such as Puerto Del Carmen and Costa Teguise have many attractive
boutiques. However for the best shopping area head to Calle Real
in Arrecife, the Biosfera Shopping Centre in Puerto Del Carmen and the
Deiland Centre in Playa Honda. In Arrecife the main shopping street
is Calle Leon Y Castillo (known locally as Calle Real). The Deiland
Shopping Centre in Playa Honda has many shops and relaxing cafes as well
as a cinema.
For a more traditional shopping experience visit the market in Costa Teguise

many items including hand-made tablecloths, jewellery, paintings, African
