Luxury: Aramis (Carrer Montenegro 1), minimalist décor and good Italian menu; Award-winning Ca’n Amer (Carrer Pou) cellar-restaurant with a stylish take on traditional Majorcan dishes.

Drinking

Budget: Bar Bosch (Placa Rei Joan Carles 1), lively, inexpensive bar which also serves great tapas.
Mid-Range: La Lonja (opposite Sa Llotja), vibrant pub with mixed clientele; Box Office (Avgda. Gabriel Roca 31), trendy haunt near the Jardins La Quarentena on the waterfront, 3km from city centre; Café El Pesquero (Moll de la Lonja), perfect waterfront spot to watch the sun set.
Luxury: La Boveda (c/Boteria 3, off Placa Llotja), chic bar with great choice in wines and usually a queue to get in; Abaco (Carrer Sant Joan 1), the most stylish place in town set in 17th century mansion with fountains.

Things To See And Do

Explore the streets of the old town around Passeig d’Es Born. Take a Turkish bath in the Banys Arabs in c/Can Serra.
Visit the La Seo Cathedral with its incredible interior designed by the Catalan surrealist artist Antoni Gaudi.
Take a stroll along the waterfront, which is lined with cafes.
Go swimming in the Bay of Palma – take the no.15 bus every 10 mins from Placa Espanya.
Visit the Castell de Bellver – the fortress with wonderful views over Palma.

Shopping

For designer brands and popular Spanish brands such as Zara and Mango, head to Avinguda del Rei Jaume III.
El Corte Ingles department store has two branches, on Jaime III and Avinguda A. Rossello.
For craft, food and jewellery shops, explore the narrow streets around Placa Joan Carlos 1, Placa Major and C/Argenteria.
Local handicrafts such as leather goods, ceramics and glasswork can be bought at the Passeig per l’Artesania in the old Sa Gerreria district.
The Baratillo flea market is on Saturdays on Avenguda Gabriel Alomar. Palma’s indoor food market is at Placa Olivar, Mon-Sat until 2pm.

Beyond The City

Take the train across the dramatic Tramuntana mountains to the pretty town of Soller in northwestern Mallorca, then take the tram to the popular resort, Port de Soller.
Visit the beautiful village of Deia, near Soller, and the Valldemossa monastery nearby. There are regular buses from Palma to Deia.
Buy leather products at the town of Inca, 19 miles (30km) north of Palma, with regular buses and trains from Palma.
