Rome - City Card

Eating

Budget: Arincia Blu (Via dei Latini 55-65), located in San Lorenzo. A fabulous vegetarian restaurant serving traditional Italian cuisine in a friendly environment. Pizzeria Baffetto (Via del Governo Vecchio 114), near to Piazza Navona this is viewed by many as simply the best Pizzeria around. Great prices and a wonderful atmosphere.
Mid-Range: Ristorante del Pallaro (Largo del Pallaro, 15). A good choice for traditional Roman experience and cuisine, offering an excellent fixed-price menu with 8 courses.
Luxury: La Terrazza (Via Ludovisi 49), serving up exquisite Italian cuisine in a wonderful location (overlooking St Peter’s). La Pergola (inside the Cavalien Hotel), in Monte Mario. An elegant restaurant viewed by many as the best in the city. Offering fine Mediterranean dining throughout the year and an outside terrace in the summer months.

Drinking

There are a variety of establishments in Rome to visit for a drink. “Enoteca” refers more to a wine shop than a bar but none the less often offers small glasses of wine, mainly so that you can try before you buy. There are also a variety of pubs or “Birreria” in the city mainly serving beer on tap, spirits and cocktails, thought to be the oldest of which is “Fiddler’s Elbow” (Via dell’Olmata 43), with a late license this venue is always packed out!. “disco-pubs” are another popular phenomenon featuring Dj’s and a dancefloor.

Things To See And Do

- Vatican City - With some of the world’s most famous and breathtaking landmarks this walled city is simply omissible. Be sure to visit St Peter’s Basilica, the Vatican gardens and museum and the Sistine chapel.
- Colosseum & Imperial Forums - Architecturally brilliant, take a step back in time and get a feel for ancient Rome in to of the grandest buildings of all time.
- Pantheon - One of the architectural wonders of the world the Pantheon was built in 27 B.C. and amazingly remains pretty much fully intact. Stooped in history it should not be missed.
- Trevi Fountain - Located on a tiny Piazza, it’s hard to believe the crowds this lovely fountain attracts. The fountain is Baroque in style, and has been recently restored which has undoubtedly contributed to its current fame.

Shopping

Rome has a wealth of shops on offer, from some of the big fashion names such as Gucci and Givenchy to second hand, vintage and bric-a-brac markets.
Via Nazionale and via del Corso are the streets to visit for high-street chic, and a few stylish boutiques. The streets of via Borgognon and via Condotti are filled with ultra-expensive stores. A great place to people watch, this is the place to mingle with some of the best dressed men and women in Rome!
The TAD concept store (via Babuino 155A) is a good department store with an ethnic twist; it has a good selection of clothing, furniture, music and a hair & beauty department.
If you are looking for antiques head down to via Margutta, via del Babuino and via dei Banchi Vecchi and the surrounding areas. Flea markets and retro bargains are also increasingly popular with two of the treasure troves located at via Sannio (Mon-Sat) and Porta Portese (Sun).

Beyond The City

Ostia Antica: Rome’s ancient port is well worth a visit, easily reached by the Metro, it’s a good way to venture further a-field on a short break.
Nemi: Located in the Castelli Romani (a collection of towns on the outside of Rome), Nemi is quite easily one of the prettiest on offer. With a wonderful lake, it’s well worth the 20 minute trip. This is also a very popular location for locals, so beware of crowds at the weekends.
