SÓNAR (International festival of advanced music and multimedia)

Running for over 13 years the Sónar festival plays host to a variety of dance
and electronic music fused with contemporary arts and advanced multimedia. Various
musical tastes are catered for in both the day and night time activities. In the
day the events take place in the Centre of Contemporary Culture, ranging from exhibitions,
presentations and visual screenings to live performances. In the evening the action
takes place in Calle Botánica with a variety of well-known acts performing
throughout the night. The festival is extremely popular with both the public and
the trade so book early!

The Barcelona Summer Festival or the "Grec Festival" began in 1976 as
a theatre festival. Nowadays it is one of the most popular cultural events on the
Barcelona summer calendar. Top names in the field of music will be headlining. There
will also be a variety of performing arts on offer throughout the 4 week programme.

Fiesta of La Mercé

The Fiesta of La Mercé is a celebration of the Virgin Mercy. During the four
day fiesta the city is transformed by mythical creatures and cultural activities.
Fire-breathing dragons take to the streets alongside fantastic dance groups, costumed
devils and various musical groups. Fireworks are also popular, particularly suring
the "Carrefoc" when a procession of costumed devils, dragons and eagles
take to the street. There are also human towers created by "castellers",
street theatre workshops and kite displays.
