Eating
Budget: La Grappe d'Or. Very reasonably priced restaurant which is hugely popular with the locals so can get very busy at peak times. A very French restaurant with a good atmosphere. (Tel: 05 53 61 17 58).
Mid-range: L'Imparfait. Excellent restaurant specialising in fish dishes as well as a choice of other French food. Stunning surroundings of character including high ceilings, plenty of stone and exposed beams. The restaurant has a peaceful outside terrace taking up the best part of a quiet pedestrian side street in the old part of Bergerac. (Tel: 05 53 57 47 92).
Luxury: La Tour des Vents. Fabulous top end restaurant with stunning views over the Dordogne region. Located in Monbazillac (just 10 mins drive from Bergerac), grab a table on the terrace for a fantastic view of Bergerac. The food is luxurious and varied with a wine list to match. Drinking
As with many regions in France, Bergerac is well know for its wine production so there is always plenty of local vino to be sample.
Bergerac also has a variety of lively bars and clubs which are worth visiting whilst on holiday in south west France:
- Bar Club - a private drinking venue which plays host to karaoke and cabaret evenings.
- Bar Le Memphy's - close to the town centre, this barhas a lively atmposhere and is popular with locals and tourists looking for a buzzing night out.
- Bar Tabac Le Bistro - a favourite with locals meeting for a quick natter in a relaxed atmopshere.
- Le Windsor Nightclub - a lively nightclub which attracts young and trendy locals and tourists looking for a variety of music from hip hop to reggae.
Things to See & Do
- Bergerac Tobacco Museum - Explore the history of tobacco at the Maison Peyrarede, the home of Bergerc's Musee du Tebac.
- Costi Museum - showing the fantastic works of the world famous scultpor Constantin Papachristopoulos.
- Maison des Vins - visit the "wine rooms" of Bergerac for some wine tasting of local wines as well as art exhibitions and concerts set in the beautiful settings of the sixteenth-century Recollects Cloisters.
- Chateau De Monbazillac - Built in the mid-sixteenth century, this beautiful and historic chateau is situated in the heart of the prestigious Monbazillac vineyards.
- Aqua Park Junior Land - One for the whole family, the Aqua Park has mulitple swimming pools, miniature golf, table tennis, ten pin bowling and various evening entertainment.
Shopping
Bergerac is one of the largest towns in the region, so has every type of shop you could possibly need or want in the new part of town.
Visit the Rue de la Resistance, the main shopping street in the old part of town where you will find all types of shops. Or try the Place du Marche, a covered market selling fresh meat and veg and clothing, as well as a handful of tea and coffee shops where you can sit and rest your tired feet after a long days shopping.
There are also many other markets offering fresh, local produce, fruit and vegetables and the many regional delicacies, held on a weekly basis in the centre of Bergerac.
