Overview of Los Gigantes, Tenerife
Los Gigantes is Spanish for the phrase “The Giants” and is so called due to the gigantic cliffs lining its coast. These cliffs, also called Los Gigantes, rise from the sea to a height of 500 - 800m and some consider them to be one of the greatest sights of Tenerife. The cliffs are definitely worth a visit whilst on holiday in the Canary Islands and are best viewed from a boat where you can see all the different layers of volcanic rock. The rocks are also used as a destination for climbing fanatics.
Los Gigantes is located on the west coast of Tenerife and is part of the Santiago del Teide municipality which also includes Puerto Santiago and Playa De La Arena. You will find a handful of shops, bars and restaurants in the town centre which is built into the sides of the cliffs surrounding the area. The town also has an impressive marina where boats frequently depart on Whale and Dolphin seeking expeditions. The pretty marina is enclosed by rock which creates an ideal setting for relaxing by the sea in the Canarian sun. A few glasses of wine with a tasty meal and the beautiful scenery of the Canary Islands; what could be better?

Boat trip to The Giants
A truly awe-inspiring sight in Tenerife and one not to be missed is Los Gigantes, or The Giants which are the huge sheer black cliffs on the west coast of Tenerife. The scale of these cliffs can only really be appreciated by taking a boat trip from Puerto Santiago to the foot of the cliffs. Historically the people of Tenerife thought these cliffs were sacred and also that this is where the world ended, and it’s easy to understand why!
Diving
Los Gigantes is also a popular location for snorkelling and diving trips due to its secluded bays and clear waters perfect for exploring the beautifully coloured coral and shipwrecks on the seabed not to mention the wide array of Tenerife’s sea life.
