Alderney Week
This is celebrated from the first Monday of August and is a traditional week of traditional and more eccentric festivities including parade floats on Cavalcade Day, a man powered flight competition where entrants build a fantastic flying machine and launch themselves off the harbour, a sandcastle competition and the daft raft race competition.
Battle of Flowers
this annual event on Jersey began in 1902 when floats were decorated with flowers to celebrate the Coronation of Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. Now thousands of people take part in the event on the second Thursday in August. Originally the battle got its names as people ripped the floats to pieces and threw flowers at each other. This is no longer the case and the floats are reused the next day in the Moonlight Parade.
