Budget: For cheap tasty pizza and sandwiches,
try snack bar chains Spizzico (two in Piazza del Duomo) and Brek (Piazza
San Babila).
Mid-Range: Nuova Arena (Via C. M. Maggi, next
to Piazza Lega Lombardi), friendly, busy place with delicious, good value
local cuisine. Also, Osteria della Cagnola (Via Cirillo 14), popular place
famed for local dishes, and Trattoria Milanese (Via Santa Marta 11).
Luxury: Bice (Via Borgospesso 12), a place for
Milan’s beautiful people in a stylish setting with delicious food; Peck
(Via Victor Hugo 4) for upmarket modern Milanese cooking.
Drinking
Budget: Julien (Via C M Maggi, next to Piazza Lega Lombardi), great Happy
Hour free snacks. Also fill up for free with a drink at Bar Jamaica (Via
Brera).
Mid-Range: Magenta (Via Carducci 13), historic café popular with smart young
Milanese. Il Resentin (Via Mercato) with 36 flavours of grappa as aperitif.
Luxury: Bars in the Hotel Palace (Piazza della Republica) and Hotel Four
Seasons (via Gesu 8) Also Zucca in Galleria (Piazza del Duomo 21), famous
bar where Campari was invented inside the opulent Vittorio Emanuele arcade.
Things To See And Do
The Duomo, Milan's vast cathedral in Piazza del Duomo. Walk on its roof
(3.50 Euros if you walk up, 5 Euros by lift) for amazing views.
- Browse around the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the stunning shopping
arcade next to the Duomo.
- Visit fashion central, Via Montenapoleone, where you'll find all the top
designer names.
- Walk up the pedestrianised Via Dante shopping street to Sforzesco Castle.
Visit the art museum inside.
- In Summer, relax amid the greenery and lakes of Parco Sempione.
- Visit the Naviglio Canal area for a view of Bohemian Milan. See the huge
antiques market there on the last Sunday of each month.
- In Bergamo, go inside the spectacular Duomo in the Citta Alta.
Shopping
Milan's designer fashion district is the Quadrilatero d'Oro around Via
Montenapoleone and Via della Spiga, home to Armani, Prada, Gucci, Versace
and Dolce & Gabbana.
The Gianfranco Ferre emporium on via della Spiga offers an in-house spa
offers steam baths and mud chambers while you shop and 10 Corso Como is
hailed as one of the best fashion boutiques in the world.
Corso Vittorio Emanuele II has all the international chain stores. The main
department store is Rinascente in Piazza del Duomo.
Via Dante is a charming pedestrianised shopping street. Via Brera has
interesting one-off clothes and interior design shops.
In Bergamo, head to Sentierone in the new town and Via Colleone in the old
town.
Beyond The City
The Italian lakes are an hour's drive away. Como is the nearest, and
slightly to its west is Maggiore. Lake Garda is about a two-hour drive on
the A4 motorway.

The Alps are also an easy drive from Milan and very close to Bergamo.
Popular resorts are Foppolo and San Simone. The Swiss border is an hour from
Bergamo.
- West of Milan is the skiing and hiking region of Piemonte.
If you continue heading east of Milan on the main artery, the A4, you reach
Verona and Venice.
- South of Milan is the beautiful Italian Riviera (including the colourful
seaside towns of Portofino and Riomaggiore) and Tuscany.
