Although annual leave is limited to a few weeks a year, there is no reason that the time away from the office can't be enjoyed to the full.
One way to make the most of a break is to combine a ski trip with a city break, the Guardian suggests, noting that there are a number of destinations where this is possible.
Locations across Europe, can offer the joys of combining a ski trip with some city-based fun, the newspaper states.
Innsbruck in Austria is one such city that allows holidaymakers to enjoy the mountains and the city streets in one break, being surrounded by no less than eight separate ski areas.
And for thrill seekers, one of the steepest runs in Europe - with a gradient of 70 per cent - is located in one of the resorts outside the city.
Recently, the newspaper noted that there are numerous different ski resorts that have suitable facilities for those in search of a family holiday to the slopes, no matter what age the children are.
