Santa Cruz has much to offer Britons looking for a sunny city break, due to its "stunning modern architecture" and beautiful natural surroundings, which may prompt holidaymakers to get their skates on and book cheap flights to Tenerife.
Writing on the online travel pages of the Guardian, Philip Smith said that once a person knew where to look, they could enjoy a pleasant climate and low cost of living while staying away from the mainstream resorts.
And a break in Santa Cruz - a city which has been transformed over recent years - will situate people within easy travelling distance of all of Tenerife's attractions, he adds.
With the Canary Island currently benefiting from a low rate of VAT, it may also be the perfect time to hit its main shopping district, Calle Castillo.
"On every other block you could see evidence of more modest improvements: new benches, restored parks and city squares," Mr Smith explains.
One well-known fan of the island is the newsreader Huw Edwards.
He recently told the Telegraph that some of his happiest family holidays have been in Tenerife.
