For the BBC newsreader Huw Edwards, Costa Adeje is heaven on earth and more Britons may also discover this in 2009 if they choose to book cheap flights to Tenerife and go exploring the Canary Island.
In an article for the Telegraph, Edwards explained that some of his happiest family holidays have been in Tenerife and that he hoped they would all return there as soon as possible.
"The combination of sunshine, rugged beauty, clean beaches, well-equipped hotels and good restaurants would take some beating," he said.
He added that as the flight only took four and a half hours, for holidaymakers travelling with young children, it was "a far better option than looking for winter sun elsewhere".
And Britons may wish to enjoy a stay in the island's capital Santa Cruz, which the Guardian's Philip Smith recently stated had a dramatic mountain-scope right on its doorstep.
He added that the current low rate of VAT in Tenerife may give people the perfect excuse to hit the shops.
