As many Britons may have woken up to see snow on the ground this week, the majority of people may now be dreaming of an escape from the miserable UK climate and a sunny holiday overseas.
And such individuals could be in luck, as Nick Trend, writing on the online travel pages of the Telegraph, claims that during February, there are more public parties going on around the world than during any other month in the year.
Britons may wish, for example, to book cheap flights to Nice to join in the city's Lenten carnival.
"The Riviera resort celebrates the beginning of Lent with more than a week of processions - flower parades in the afternoons, light parades in the evenings and a big firework display on the final evening," Mr Trend explains.
Or for a different break with a difference, he advises people to take advantage of the best ski season "in living memory" during the February half-term break.
In an earlier article, Mr Trend claimed that skiing was likely to be near the top of many Britons' travel wish list in 2009, due to resorts benefiting from early snowfalls.
