Crete: The perfect escape?

As people across the country woke up to see a carpet of snow outside, they may have felt more ready than ever to escape the cold seasonal chill of the UK and jet off for a spot of winter sun overseas.

Writing on the online travel pages of the Times, Daniel Finkelstein explains that his children were well catered for at the holiday resort he chose, with a childcare service that provided fun daytime activities, meals and help with babysitting, leaving mum and dad to relax and soak up the sun.
He goes on to admit that when it came to trying to find something seriously wrong with Crete, he was left stumped.
Earlier in the week, the Telegraph's Fred Mawer stated that Crete had the longest sunny season of all the Greek islands, as it was situated further south.
This made it an affordable holiday choice as villa owners tended not to raise their rates as much during the summer months.
