Britons who have booked cheap flights to Cyprus in order to soak up the sun on a few weeks' getaway may feel tempted never to return to the cold and rainy shores of the UK.
However, according to one expert, Britons have been moving permanently to the island for the last 40 years due to the similar lifestyle it offers them.
Paul Collins, property editor at BuyAssociation.co.uk, said people in Cyprus drive on the left, the judicial system was similar to English law and retail and commerce also felt familiar.
"People don't tend to find that [it] is a huge change of lifestyle, but certainly the weather's much better and it is enough of a change that it does attract people," he added.
And golf enthusiasts in particular may soon wish to take regular flights to Cyprus as plans have been unveiled to build 14 brand spanking new golf courses on the island.
