Britons who are planning to book cheap flights to Venice could end up feeling like royalty once they have touched down in the Italian city of canals.
Writing on the online pages of the Independent, Rhiannon Batten explains that Italy has a "panoply of palaces" for tourists to discover and that many are no longer associated with the church or the crown.
And one place to really get a taste of this luxury is Venice.
"Home to almost as many palaces as canals, Venice is the obvious jumping-off point for a tour of the country's most palatial accommodation," she notes.
And she adds that perhaps the grandest of all is the Ca' Sagredo, once home to the Sagredo family and now a five-star hotel.
However, holidaymakers do not have to have the wallet of a royal in order to enjoy a trip to Venice.
Janet Street-Porter recently stated that her memories of a winter holiday spent exploring the city 40 years ago were "unforgettable".
