Britons who want to get away from it all and enjoy some early sunshine and a little culture as well may wish to book cheap flights to Palma, Majorca where they can find both, according to one writer.

According to the Telegraph's Alexandra Ferguson, the city's Old Town is still largely unspoilt by tourism and also boasts an imposing Gothic cathedral.

She explains that away from the waterfront, quiet cobbled streets lead to Renaissance palaces and town squares, while there are also ornate mosaics of Catalan Art Nouveau to take in on many street corners.

"Palma also has some wonderful boutiques and galleries ... The city snoozes during the heat of the day, waking after dark when locals crowd the tapas bars and pavement cafes around Sa Llotja," Ms Ferguson added.

And gold medal winning cyclist Bradley Wiggins recently noted that the beach resort of Port de Pollenca in Majorca was also family-friendly with its relaxed atmosphere and great weather.
