The history of Corfu is a list of smart dynasties, one travel writer notes.

Its history stretches back to when Poseidon abducted Korkyra and took her to the island, she claims.
Now, however, anyone stepping off of cheap flights to Corfu could expect to see traces of a number of civilizations.
"The Venetians left a legacy over three centuries, then the French, then the British," Ms Mather explains.
She adds that, while much of the island is developed for tourism, the north-east remains as a high-class destination for villa holidays.
World Travel Guide advises that anyone stepping off of cheap flights to Corfu from the UK should be prepared to set their watches forwards by three hours in summer and two hours during the winter months.
From Corfu Ioannis Kapodistrias International Airport, a journey of around a kilometre reaches Pontikonisi to the south, while Corfu city is around three kilometres to the north.
