While spring may still not quite yet have sprung in the UK, Britons could do a lot worse than to book cheap flights to Nice in France and catch the last of the winter sun on the coast.
The Times' Anthony Peregrine states that it is a myth that beaches are best in the summer and that in reality seasides are "far better" off season.
And despite being in France, Nice has a Mediterranean climate which could make it perfect for soaking up the rays at any time of year.
Mr Peregrine, meanwhile, visited Les Sables-d'Olonne beach on the Atlantic coast, where there are still commercial and fishing ports in the town centre.
"Being in Les Sables [in the winter] is like being in a theatre after the seasonal show is over. The scenery remains outstanding, the staff are more relaxed - and you have it all largely to yourself," he asserted.
