Those who want to escape the grey winter weather of the UK by booking cheap flights to Venice, Spain or a similar sunny European destination may wish to consider making this a regular mini break.
And with Spain and Italy being just a short distance fly time away, Britons could find themselves lapping up the sunshine just hours after they leave the office.
Nigel Pocklington, managing director of Hotels.com in Europe, said that people in the UK were "determined" to keep travelling.
"We have a seen a 29 per cent increase in searches for one-night nano-breaks showing that people would rather stay less time than give up their mini breaks altogether," he added.
And his claims are supported by research from the group, which revealed that the nano-break trend is not limited to UK cities, with travellers also taking single-night breaks in major European cities, travelling out on Saturdays and returning on Sundays to get away with less of the cost.
Furthermore, searches in January 2009 for single-night stays in Venice were up by 84 per cent compared to January 2008.
