Britons considering booking cheap flights to Edinburgh to enjoy a domestic holiday this year may wish to explore the country's slopes, following comments from one winter sports fan.

Writing for the Times, Sarah Vine explained that Scottish ski resorts in Glenshee, Cairngorm, Nevis Range, Glencoe Mountain and The Lecht were all convenient and cost-effective when it came to hitting the piste.

And as well as the sporting activities on offer, she noted that the areas also offered tourists the chance to take in the outstanding natural beauty of the mountain range.

"It's nature at her grandest - but also her most generous: the light has a golden, buttery quality to it, the silver birches cover the hills in a purple haze, the horizon stretches for miles," Ms Vine explained.

Furthermore, with a choice of more gentle slopes, she added that many of the resorts were perfect for teaching children to ski safely.

But wherever Britons decide to head off to for a break on the slopes this year, resorts in Europe have experienced some of their best ever snowfalls, meaning now may be the perfect time to book that winter break.
