Britons have been having a romantic love affair with Spain - and in particular the Costa del Sol - for 50 years now, according to one commentator, which may prompt them to celebrate this anniversary by booking cheap flights to Spain for this summer.

Such a seaside break could see people's money stretching further and offer them a good dose of sun, sea and sand.

In an article for the Mirror, Robin Gauldie recently said it was "no wonder" Britons had been in love with the Costa del Sol since the 1960s.

"If you're looking for a sunshine holiday that won't break the bank, in a spot that's not a million miles away, the Costa del Sol resorts on either side of Malaga are hard to beat," he added.

He went on to note that for a taste of real Spain, Malaga was worth a visit, while Granada was one of the country's most "spectacular" historical cities.

Spain may also be the perfect place to score a birdie, after Today's Golfer stated that Malaga and La Manga are particularly popular with golfers and with the country being so close to the UK there are often some great deals to be had.
