Whether they are planning on booking cheap flights to Pisa, Venice, Milan or Rome, Britons can expect to find Italy "crammed with culinary hotspots", according to one writer.

In an article for the Telegraph, Lee Marshall states that from truffle hunting in Piedmont to wine tasting in Tuscany, there is plenty to challenge the UK food and drink adventurer.

In Piedmont, Mr Marshall claims that truffle hunters are secretive about where they locate the luxury food source due to the price of the items, but that Britons can book into certain resorts and go hunting with an expert themselves.

And at the historic town house Corte Altavilla in Conversano, where Francis Ford Coppola once dined out, holidaymakers can enjoy a special two-day cookery course, he adds.

However, for Britons with more adventurous taste buds, the Times' Anthony Capella explains that spring is the best time to enjoy the Italian delicacy of sea urchin - best served with pasta.
