Britons who have booked cheap flights to Paphos for their Easter holiday this year will be touching down on the "implausibly" sunny island of Cyprus, a destination steeped in history and myth, according to one writer.
Linda Cookson, in an article for the Independent, states that she does not know what kept her from visiting Cyprus for so long as she loves the Mediterranean and the chance to explore different island life.
And Cyprus is certainly steeped in myth, thought of as the legendary birthplace of Aphrodite where the goddess of love emerged from the sea in Homer's Odyssey.
In addition, the third-largest island in the Mediterranean is lit up by the sun for much of the year.
"A reputed 300 days of sunshine a year make it a very appealing prospect for visiting outside of the regular summer season," Ms Cookson explains.
And while Britons may be keen to soak up the sun and learn more about mythical Cyprus, there is also plenty on offer for golf enthusiasts who book cheap flights to Paphos.
Officials on the island recently proposed plans for 14 brand spanking new golf courses to be constructed.
