This summer Britons may really be longing to get away from it all and finding their own secret paradise - and by booking cheap flights to Almeria, they may succeed in this goal.
The Times' Vincent Crump notes that just a short drive from Almeria, holidaymakers can discover Cabo de Gata - nestled between the Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca.
Here, Britons can pick where to lay their towels from 30 miles of stunning coastline, enjoying a shore dotted with burnt-out volcanoes and pirate watchtowers.
"This is the closest thing to desert in Europe, which is why Leone, Eastwood and Bronson came here to shoot their spaghetti westerns in the 1960s, making use of the jagged ravines, fan-palm oases and whitewashed pueblos," Mr Crump enthuses.
Yet this desert has also been preserved thanks to its abundance of wildlife, which includes migrating flamingos and waters perfect for snorkeling.
Film fans who want to visit the location of their favourite spaghetti westerns could get the chance by booking cheap flights to Almeria as according to author Christopher Frayling, many of the sets still exist.
