Truffle enthusiasts have been told to head to the continent now before the season ends for the prized delicacy.
Writing for the Times, Tony Dawe explains that there is about a month left to hunt down truffles before they go out of season.
He points out that travelling to Chalons, in the Champagne region, could actually prove a relatively affordable way to taste truffle.
Although the delicacy is likely to rise in price to more than £300 in the run-up to Christmas, he notes that tours of the region are available for less than £220.
For this price, Mr Dawe suggests that visitors to the Auberge des Moissons at Matougues can expect to be taken on a truffle hunt and be served a meal containing the prized ingredient.
Travellers hoping to keep their trip on a tight budget could consider cheap flights to Paris for the chance to take in a view of France's capital city.
Chalons-en-Champagne's tourist office explains that the A4 motorway links the two locations, which could make cheap flights to Paris an ideal way to reach Chalons itself.
