Britons who have been putting off planning a holiday in Europe over fears it may be too expensive may wish to re-think their plans and book cheap flights to Spain following the news that such breaks are getting cheaper.

Miles Brignall, in an article for the Guardian, said: "Forget what you've heard about countries in the eurozone being stratospherically expensive holiday destinations - the latest survey into comparative costs has found Spain ... [is] as affordable as ever."

The poll in question was released this week by Post Office Travel Services and reveals that breaks in previously cheap destinations such as Thailand and South Africa have all risen steeply.

Meanwhile, Spain is the cheapest destination in the eurozone - with a basket of goods including drinks, a meal for two, sun cream and other holiday items costing just £67.08.

This research is backed up by Mike Whiting, managing editor at Holiday Extras, who recently claimed that Spain was still popular with Britons looking for a sunny getaway.

All this should inspire people to get their skates on and book cheap flights to Spain.
