Britons looking for a holiday with a difference this summer may wish to book cheap flights to Spain and then hire a car and set out on a road trip across the country's wine region.

Anthony Peregrine, in an article for the Times, states that in Rioja, such is the landscape and vineyards that it can be easy to forget all of the problems waiting for the tourist back home.

He adds that the region attracts large numbers of visitors each year, all focused on touring, eating and discussing the available vintage wines.

"The low sun is making a show of the ochre earth, rocks and vineyards. There is a walled village behind, a wine-tasting ahead and, along the way, a constant intake of tapas," Mr Peregrine explains of his time there.

And Britons who wish to experience this tapas in the country it originated from may wish to book cheap flights to Spain, following comments by the Guardian's Stephanie Hills.

She recently claimed that a trip to cities such as Madrid can allow holidaymakers to sample an increasingly popular tapas dish - cocina creativa de mercado.
