Britons planning on an Italian break this summer may wish to book cheap flights to Rome in order to discover the truth behind one of the world's bestselling novels.

Dan Brown's Angels and Demons takes place largely within Rome and Vatican City and sees its hero Robert Langdon deciphering clues from the city's churches, monuments and sculptures in order to solve a series of murders.

In an article for the Times, Clement Wilson, editor of thebloggersguide.com, gives his advice on some of the top spots to visit on an Angels and Demons tour.

First off is the Path of Illumination, linked by landmarks associated with Air, Fire, Water and Earth.

The marker for earth is the Santa Maria del Popolo, with its Chigi Chapel housing Bernini sculpture's Habakkuk and the Angel - which readers may know points Professor Langdon to his next destination.

There is also the Piazza San Pietro, Santa Maria della Vittoria - a church near Piazza della Republicca - the Fountain of the Four Rivers in Piazza Navona and Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel to look out for.

The movie version of Angels and Demons, starring Tom Hanks and Ewan McGregor, is out this month and may further inspire Britons to book cheap flights to Rome, after seeing the picturesque city on the big screen.
