While many Britons may be keen to book cheap flights to Spain in order to enjoy a long and lazy summer holiday in the sun, they could make the break more permanent by looking at a property out there.
Clare Nessling, operations director at overseas mortgage specialist Conti, said that housing was now becoming more affordable in many European countries, including Spain.
"Over the last few weeks we've seen an increase of around 20 per cent in the number of enquiries received and quotes given out for European mortgages," she explained.
Added to the recent decision by the European Central Bank to cut rates and the fact that sterling was beginning to regain value, Ms Nessling noted that Spanish property was now more affordable for Britons.
Property investment magazine Jet-to-Let recently reported that Spain was in the top ten of countries property investors were interested in.
And those who do decide on buying their own Spanish place in the sun may find they can benefit from regular but affordable getaways there by booking cheap flights to Spain.
