Britons planning to book cheap flights to Barcelona this summer may wish to book a car so they have the freedom to explore the surrounding regions at their leisure.

But while they are staying in the city itself, they may wish to take a guided tour with a difference, following one writer's experience.

In an article for the Telegraph, Annie Bennett noted that on a recent trip to the city she decided to hire a GoCar, rather than take a traditional bus-top guided tour.

The tiny open-topped vehicle is fitted with GPS - voiced by English musician Ayesha who lives in Barcelona - to give drivers directions, while also commenting on the sights.

"I've never been [terribly] good at multitasking and weaving through Barcelona's traffic in an open-top three-wheeler while being told about the art nouveau building ahead and how to say 'street' in Catalan was a bit daunting at first," Ms Bennett admitted.

However, she soon got the hang of it and concluded that it was a perfect day.

As well as the city itself, Harold Heckle, for the Associated Press, recently claimed that the region also boasted sandy beaches and dramatic coastlines, which may further prompt people to book cheap flights to Barcelona.
