Surf's up in Cornwall this year and travellers who have booked cheap flights to Newquay may wish to try out the latest craze in water sports - stand-up boarding.

According to Chris Haslam, writing for the Times, the likes of Jennifer Aniston, Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson have already tried their hand at the new craze, as have Pierce Brosnan and Sting.

The sport involves standing upright on the surfboard using a paddle to balance, with Mr Haslam stating that it does not look difficult.

However, Chris Rea, who runs a Cornish surf school, told the writer that on a scale where one is easy and ten is hard, stand-up boarding is a seven or eight.

"If you're aged between ten and 70 and you can swim 25 yards, Rea guarantees you'll be on your feet by the end of the lesson, whether you're famous or not," Mr Haslam states.

And the newspaper's Samantha Lyster advises any travellers booking cheap flights to Newquay to check out the Kernow Trek Tuk Tuk surf safari, where a Tuk Tuk is used to ferry surfers to and from the beach.
