Art-lovers may wish to book cheap flights to Venice this summer where they can visit a brand new art gallery in the city's old customs house.

The Independent's Adrian Mourby has already enjoyed an early visit to the new attraction and claims it is located in a prime position at the entrance to the Grand Canal from the San Marco basin and "impossible" to miss.

The gallery has been funded by the billionaire Francois Pinault, who Mr Mourby notes was named in 2006 and 2007 as the most influential person in contemporary art by the magazine Art Review.

He adds: "These galleries now contain paintings, sculptures and installations from Pinault's collection."

And Mr Mourby states that people are likely to visit the space as much for the views it offers across the city as the art itself.

The Guardian's John Brunton recently claimed that holidaymakers can keep their costs down after booking cheap flights to Venice by enjoying a main meal at lunchtime rather than in the evening as this was when the prices were cheaper.
