Families looking to spoil their dads this Fathers Day may wish to book cheap flights to Rome after hearing about the experiences of one father and son duo.

Robert Crampton tells the Times that he and his 12-year-old son Sam made their first ever visit to the Italian city together.

And he was not disappointed by what he experienced there, claiming that Rome - like Tokyo, Beijing, Jerusalem, Istanbul and Cairo - was "perhaps the most culturally and politically significant city" that he had not visited before.

Mr Crampton added that for a capital city, Rome was particularly walkable, which may be welcome news for tourists planning to see all the sights.

On their trip, Mr Crampton and his son took in the Spanish Steps, Pantheon, Trevi fountain, Colosseum, Forum, Piazza Navarro, St Peter's Square and the Vatican.

"It's not exactly an original remark, but I was bowled over by Rome," he stated.

Travellers planning their own Roman holiday by booking cheap flights to Rome are following in the footsteps of America's Got Talent presenter Jerry Springer, who recently told the Times he enjoyed visiting the Italian capital.
