Despite the ongoing credit crunch and global financial crisis putting pressure on people's budgets, many holidaymakers are still leaving their troubles at home to hit the ski slopes in France, it has been noted.

Families or friends seeking cheap winter flights may be interested to learn that the French Government Tourist Office is reporting strong early sales of skiing vacations.

According to OnTheSnow.com - citing the Ski Industry Report 2008 published by Crystal Holidays - 37.5 per cent of such winter breaks now happen in France, while 21 per cent occur in Austria.

The resource adds that budget airlines have made it easier for ski lovers, due to the number of flights from regional UK airports to France.

Jean-Pierre Courteau, UK director of Maison de la France, says: "French ski resorts are investing a lot of money to improve their accommodation and to offer skiers a greener environment."

Meanwhile, Tesco Travel Insurance has noted that parents should negotiate airport transfers when vacationing over the half-term break, in order to reduce taxi costs.
