Despite the ongoing credit crunch and the global financial crisis, people will continue to travel, according to one sector commentator.
Francesco Frangialli, secretary-general of the UN World Tourism Organisation, said that the economic situation may cut down on individuals' leisure spending but that many would not forgo their vacation plans.
He believed that this was because many holidaymakers were keen to use budget airlines to book their winter flights.
Mr Frangialli added that 900 million people had travelled during 2007, a figure that was set to rise to 1.1 billion by 2010.
"Experience teaches us that tourism is resilient. The need to go on trips, to take holidays, is too strong in our post-industrial societies," he explained.
Meanwhile, people seeking cheap ski flights may be interested to know that French winter sports vacations are still proving popular despite the credit crunch, On The Snow reports.
As a result, a number of new hotels will be opening in the country in coming months.
