America is still a value-for-money destination for Britons wishing to hop over the pond for a break, despite the current strength of the dollar against the pound, one sector commentator has claimed.
Sean Tipton, spokesperson for the Travel Association, said in terms of dining out and shopping, the US was still a lot cheaper than the UK on the whole.
He added that the main expense was getting there but that if Brits could secure reasonable flights then it was an affordable vacation.
People looking to make such savings may be interested to know that Jet2.com provides cheap flights to New York from airports in the north of the UK.
"Even with an unfavourable exchange rate it doesn't mean that it suddenly becomes a very expensive destination," Mr Tipton explained.
According to the US Department of Commerce's UK Travel Barometer, British bookings to the United States increased from four to nine per cent in the second quarter of 2008 compared to 2007.
