Travellers planning to book cheap flights to Paris this summer may wish to keep some time spare in order to visit a landmark that has been described as a "temple to paints and pleasure".
Fontainebleau sees less visitors pass through its ornate doors each year than Versailles, however, the Telegraph's Nick Trend claims that the mansion is "the most fascinating and historically significant chateau in France".
He adds that tourists can get a real sense of French history when they visit as it is one of the only royal properties in the country to be fully furnished, while the palace also boasts a more intimate garden than Versailles.
And down the road, Mr Trend recommends that people visit the village of Barbizon, which became a hub for artists in the mid-19th century, attracting Corot, Rousseau, Millet, Monet and Manet.
However, this is not the only attraction for art lovers who plan to book cheap flights to Paris.
With visits to the Louvre, the Centre Pompidou and the Orsay museum all likely to be on the schedule, visitors to the city may find they need more than a week to fit it all in.
