Holiday destinations such as Spain are still popular with travellers, as the credit crunch continues to apply financial pressure to people's spending habits.

In news that may be of interest to those seeking cheap flights to Spain, the poll by industry research firm TripVision revealed that 58 per cent of respondents agreed that the current economic climate had influenced their choice of vacation hotspot.

However, according to Travel Mole, Britons still wished to go on holiday but were opting for shorter hail destinations such as Spain, France and Italy.

TripVision marketing and operations director Jeff Rhys-Jones said: "The future intention to travel has gone down by one per cent which is not a huge drop, which suggests that people are still planning to go on holiday."

Meanwhile, Tesco Travel Insurance has revealed that savings could be made on vacation by hiring a bicycle or using public transport - rather than booking a car - and packing a picnic for day trips instead of dining at pricey cafes.
