Italy is famed for its food, with dishes such as pasta, lasagne and pizza all becoming staples in the British diet, but travellers can uncover some other hidden gems by booking cheap flights to Rome.
The Times recommends booking cheap flights to Rome between March and May so that food enthusiasts can taste one seasonal dish - Roman artichokes.
"Biding their time, these prized vegetables hide from the cold, soaking up goodness from the rich soil of the countryside surrounding Rome," the newspaper states.
It goes on to advise that travellers sample the vegetable whole as they are so tender.
The dish is typically first soaked in lemon juice and then filled with garlic, breadcrumbs, herbs and occasionally mince meat, before being baked in olive oil.
Another dish travellers may like to sample in Rome is one cooked by Antonello Colonna, chef at Palazzo delle Esposizioni, who the newspaper notes has even cooked for the Queen.
