One of the main things would-be passengers consider before booking journeys such as cheap flights to Amsterdam, Milan or Nice is whether or not the company will provide good service.
This is the opinion of Mark Stuart, head of research at the Chartered Institute of Marketing. He said consumers making arrangements for flights first think about whether the carrier is trustworthy.
People want to guarantee as far as possible that they will get what they pay for and enjoy their holiday, he added.
The questions customers ask themselves are: "Will I get to my destination safely and on time, and will the service be up to my expectations," Mr Stuart explained.
His comments follow recent reports of a travel agent rubbing coconut oil into the backs of seats to promote trips to the Carribean.
According to the story, exotic smells are being employed to help potential bookers remember special holiday moments.
