UK couples are increasingly likely to book cheap flights to Crete to spend their wedding in Greece.
The Greek National Tourism Organisation has noted more British partners are choosing Greece for the location of their wedding.
Sofia Panayiotaki, director of the UK and Ireland office at the organisation, highlighted the holiday potential of travelling to Greece, with family-friendly activities and a 5,000-year-old history.
But there have also been a remarkable rise in people tying the knot on Greek islands, which has potentially prompted guests to buy cheap flights to Crete in order to attend.
Ms Panayiotaki said: "We have had a big increase in weddings in Greece this year as British couples get married in Greece."
One of the reasons cited by the expert for the increase is the release of the film Mama Mia!, which was shot on the Sporades islands.
Europe is the most popular choice for brides and grooms to be, with Spain and Greece topping the destination favourites, according to Marry Abroad.
