Cheap flights to Spain could be useful in adding a little sunshine to a slightly overcast relationship, if one expert is to be believed.

According to a spokeswoman for match.com, an online agency that specialises in getting people together, a sojourn in a warmer climate can be just the thing to help couples reconnect.

Kate Taylor, relationship expert for the web-based dating service, said very often the fact that couples are facing their problems is a good start, but a little foreign sunshine can go a long way in helping address issues.

"A change of scene can lift the spirits and make couples see their day-to-day problems more clearly," she added, noting activities like eating out, sleeping in and swimming are also beneficial.

"Exposure to sunshine can boost the body's testosterone levels, leading to an increased sex drive - passion is a great bonder so it can help couples reconnect," Ms Taylor concluded.

The news follows a report in the Daily Mail that an operator in Mumbai was offering "divorce tourism" packages, which combine a sunny break with regular visits to a relationship counsellor.

Figures from the Office for National Statistics last year showed couples in their late twenties had the highest divorce rates of all other age groups.
