Britons have been advised to shop around when it comes to securing skiing and winter sports cover, as prices tended to vary.
Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive at the British Insurance Brokers' Association, said holidaymakers should speak to their insurance broker, who may be able to find a provider who would not double the price of an extension.
"They'll find someone who is going to [provide cover extension] at a sensible additional premium. So don't pay too much extra is probably my advice on that," he added.
Britons who are concerned about the added cost of such insurance may be interested to know that Jet2.com offers cheap ski flights from airports across the north of the UK.
According to new research by esure travel insurance, the effects of the credit crunch are causing skiers to make cut backs that could be disastrous in the event of an accident.
Nearly a fifth (18 per cent) of those polled admitted that they would not buy travel insurance cover in order to save on the total cost of their winter sports holiday.
