Commenting on the popularity of Greece as a whole, Sofia Panayiotaki, director of the UK & Ireland office at the Greek National Tourism Organisation, said that the country attracts many people.
She said: "We are in the top four popular destinations in the world, although our goal is to become number one."
Additionally, the country may appeal to those eager to make their travel money go further.
Ms Panayiotaki added: "It's economical. It is a destination that many people can afford."
Visitors who choose to visit Crete may enjoy the hot temperatures and historic sites found on the largest Greek island.
The beaches are among the best in the world, according to Explore Crete.
Meanwhile, the Touristic Research Institute recently revealed that visitors to Athens increased by 7.6 per cent in July.
