Travellers who book cheap flights to Milan through Jet2.com could enjoy a wonderful holiday, if one expert's words are anything to go by.
Local tourism official Alessandra Pitocchi said the town of Bergamo, which is found five miles to the north of the country's capital, offers a "unique Italian panorama".
She explained the destination is built on two levels, adding its walled upper tier could be worth a visit during a sojourn.
Discussing other aspects of a trip that could be enjoyable, the communications manager at Turismo Bergamo remarked: "I … suggest they taste our cuisine and the typical food and wine of our area - and a visit to Bergamo and its historical centre is not to be missed."
Her comments follow the recent Conde Nast Johansens 2010 Awards for Excellence, which named the L'Albereta Relais and Chateaux in Lombardy as the Most Excellent Luxury Spa Hotel in Europe and the Mediterranean area.
