Local official Andrea Arcai highlighted the destination's rich cultural history, suggesting tourists could visit its decorated churches or palaces, which are filled with masterpieces.

The city councillor for Brescia remarked: "[It] is a very ancient town where past vestiges have remained visible up to today. We had very important painters like Moretto, Savoldo, Foppa and Romanino."

He also discussed how UK tourists are the third most important market for the city, adding the likes of former prime minister Winston Churchill and writer DH Lawrence have been notable visitors.

Mr Arcai concluded by mentioning nearby Lake Garda and Lake Iseo – which could both be accessible if travellers book cheap flights to Milan.
