Travellers who book cheap flights to Venice through Jet2.com for a summer 2010 holiday will find the city glamorous and splendid, if one correspondent's experience is anything to go by.
Although the Italian destination is well known for being a retreat for romantic getaways, the Daily Mail's Wendy Holden took husband Jon and their young children Andrew and Isabella for a family break.
She said it was a great chance to educate her offspring about art and history in the numerous museums and galleries.
The commentator also enjoyed strolling around the city's lagoon and marvelling at the architecture of the Frari church.
Ms Holden was "desperate to see" the Palazzo Mocenigo despite it not being open the public and was pleased to pass it on a train.
"Venice has [a way] of making you feel, whatever you are doing, as if you are moving through a painting," she wrote.
Earlier this year, Alessandra Smith, a spokesperson for the Italian State Tourist Board said the island opposite St Mark's Square in the city is "very pleasant".
