With the rise in availability of high-adrenaline adventure sports, such as skiing and snowboarding, it is important that holidaymakers ensure they check the small print of their insurance, one sector commentator has claimed.

Asia Manzoor, spokesperson for esure travel insurance, said this was because any winter sports vacation came with a certain element of risk.

"Whether on a nursery slope or a black run, accidents do happen and it's crucial to have medical cover to avoid footing a hefty bill," she stated.

And travellers hoping to go even more extreme this season by participating in heli-skiing or ice-lake diving should get in contact with their insurance provider to ensure that they would be covered for such activities, Ms Manzoor concluded.

According to research by esure travel insurance, 18 per cent of those polled admitted that they would not buy travel insurance cover in order to save on the total cost of their winter sports holiday.
