Those looking for a bargain holiday this year should book cheap flights to Avignon, if one expert's comments are anything to go by.
English-language publication FRANCE magazine pointed out that the Gallic nation is seeing something of a resurgence with holidaymakers at the moment.
Editor Carolyn Boyd explained families are attracted to the range of accommodation options in the country, from traditional breaks to stays on campsites.
She said many are attracted to France's gorgeous beaches and great weather, adding that walking breaks are also popular.
The journalist remarked: "A French holiday can be the same price, if not cheaper, than a British holiday."
She concluded that food is a similar price in the Gallic country to Britain, meaning a self-catering trip could be an option.
Earlier this month, travel review site Simonseeks.com published research which suggested 56 per cent of those who chose a staycation in 2009 will go abroad this year.
France emerged as a popular destination, along with Spain and the USA.
