Those looking to keep the cost of their holiday down this year should book cheap flights to Tenerife and choose self-catering accomodation, if one expert's comments are anything to go by.
Writing for the Daily Telegraph, Fred Mawer said Spain should work out cheaper than last year, due to travel firms keeping prices competitive.
He said those keeping an eye on their budget should opt for self-catering in many areas of the country.
"In resorts and towns popular with British holidaymakers, many restaurants last summer ... [offered] bargain set-price menus of the day in the evenings rather than just at lunchtimes," Mr Mawer remarked.
He recommended considering Canary Island destinations such as Lanzarote and Tenerife, along with tranquil rural spots in Majorca.
Travellers could also think about heading to Menorca - the Daily Mail recently highlighted the small resort of Cala'n Porter and its breathtaking beach.
Journalist Caitlin Davies said the island's capital Mahon makes for a great excursion as it has a beautiful cathedral and interesting museum.
